The
Poet of Surrealism
Having
seen and admired so many Campanella's works, is time to determine
their significance and worth. I proudly announce that Vito Campanella
is a great painter, one of the best surrealist masters and his creations
are both matchless and inspiring.
Since
the beginning and close to the great Giorgio De Chirico's metaphysical
landscapes, somewhat influenced in turn by Giooto'S imposing murals,
Campanella )note that the three painters were born in Italy) has
attempted to avoid life's inclement circumstances. To our delight,
he has liberated his fantasy and gift instead.
Although
I know him well and easily recognize his unmistakable style, his
endless resources, surprising impelling forces and powerful aesthetic
drive continue to amaze me. All his works are true masterpieces
highly appreciated by spectators and critics alike.
Campanella's
flawless design compares only with that from the Renaissance most
remarkable painters and even if his palette usually favors cool
colors, the result is definitely warm and lively in their motifs
and charming narrative. As mentioned previously, Campanella searches
for the soul and marvelously describes myths, legends, heroic deeds
and other spiritual adventures.
Those
willing to explore Campanella's works may stumble not on unfriendly
bushes but the fascinating blossoms of his unique style. A respectful
artist, he paints to case and mend shattered feelings.
Before
leaving this book I wish to quote Macbeth words, "We are made
from the wood of out dreams."Yes, Shakespeare knew it and Campanella's
paiting stem from his fantasy, the implausible matter from which
his singular characters arise.
Contrasting yet convincing. telling and authentic dreams nurtured
by Campanella's imaginations, hallucinations and chimeras without
which life and death may be senseless experiences.
